Scout Summer Expedition 2025
This year our Summer Expedition coincided with St. George’s Day parade and it was great to be out doing Scouting things all weekend to celebrate our Troop and think about what we get out of Scouting.
We headed out with rucksacks packed from Owler Tor and walked into Padley Gorge on a beautiful Saturday morning. One sole coming off a walking boot about 1km in was a bit of a challenge but once resolved the two groups were cracking on and heading up Froggatt edge and Curbar Edge. Walking into the camp pretty much bang on expected time. Tents up, food on and a relaxing evening ensued.
Waking up to a temperature inversion in the valley (well the leaders saw it) was wonderful and after breakfast, quickly packed up and off we go again. Through the wonderful Chatsworth estate as the temperatures began to rise and off to Rowsley. A strategic change of plan for the finish took the Scouts through the valley rather than up to Stanton Moor and into the village of Darley Bridge. Here we renewed our promises and were happy to get in cars and travel home.
Throughout the weekend our Scouts were amazing. No whinging and moaning. Lots of supporting and motivating each other. Tons of leadership on display. As always, very proud of the Scouts and the leaders who walked with each group, doing some extra training in map reading and navigation.
Well done everyone.
