Cubs

Who are Cubs?

Cubs are young people aged 8 to 10½ who:

  • Master new skills and try new things
  • Have fun and go on adventures
  • Make friends
  • Are curious about the world around them
  • Help others and make a difference, in their own communities and beyond

Every week, they gather in groups called Cub Packs to take part in lots of interesting and challenging activities – achieving anything they set their minds to, and having lots of fun along the way.

When do they meet?

Our Cubs meet on a Thursday evening between 18:30 – 20:00

Meetings are split between the Scout Hut and various location in the local area.

What can they work towards?

Cubs can work towards various Awards and Badges during their time with the Pack.

There are many Activity and Staged Badges – Explore activity badges here

Then there are the Challenge Awards – Discover the Challenge Awards here

And the Highest Award a Cub can achieve, the Chief Scout’s Silver Award – see here

Cub Uniform and Badge Placement

What Cubs wear

Cub uniform consists of a green sweatshirt with your badges sewn on and a coloured scarf or ‘necker’ to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, navy blue trousers or shorts. Most of our Cubs also have a Cubs t-shirt for playing games or we are out and about.

Why uniform is important
Wearing a uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out and helps everyone feel part of the Pack. It also gives you a place to show off all the badges you earn.

Where to buy your uniform?
Uniform can either be bought from our online shop – Scout Store – or from a local supplier. If you’re not sure where to start, adult volunteers can give you more information about what to buy and where to buy it.

The Scout Group will provide a necker, Group Badge, Group Name Tape, Joint County / District badge and Membership when they get first invested into the Group. Spares are available if they get lost or grow out of them, just talk to one of the Section leadership Team.
