Hut Rejuvenation Project

Over the past few weeks, we have been working to repair and decorate the Scout Hut. Thanks to a grant from Belper Town Council and free labour from the Rolls Royce Community Support Project Scheme all under the direction of the volunteers of our Scout Hut Project Team we have repaired the Fire Escape, window beading, entrance porch and doors, painted the outside with multiple coats of preservative, and painted the window frames and doors. They have also cut down the overgrown weeds behind the hut and weeded around the car park and part of the Church The inside has had all the cobwebs dusted and the wall repaired and re-painted to make it look clean and refreshed.

Earlier in the year we installed a new electrical supply and distribution board in hut after the gas was cut off due to the potential sale of the Church Hall. We have also removed most of the old heating system, radiators and pipework now it is obsolete to make the hut safer for the young people running around.

We have now secured a further grant from Amber Valley Borough Council via the UKSPF Community Fund. This will help us prepare the hut for next winter by installing insulation to the roof, new low energy LED lighting, high efficiency radiant panel heater and a an instantaneous water heater in the kitchen.
