Scout Survival Camp 2024
The night of The Great Storm: Part two
About 10 years ago we were on an expedition camp near Carsington Water and on the Saturday night we were witness to a brilliant electrical storm, we sought shelter at a local pub and the camp was dubbed ‘The night of the Great Storm’. Those who were Scouts that night still recall the memories of that evening.
A couple of weeks ago we went on our Survival camp. A fantastic camp of cooking trout wrapped in horseradish leaves over fire, knife and axe skills, shelter building and more. The Friday night and start of Saturday were perfect at Consall Wood Scout Camp. Then the rumble of thunder began. From 4pm to late on Saturday night, Thunder rolled, lightning flashed and rain thudded down in Biblical fashion. Hardy bunch that we are some of the Scouts still slept in their bivouac shelters. Did the rain stop us enjoying ourselves? Absolutely not. Another fun and memorable camp (that did take a week to dry all of the kit from).
